We are not a UKAS accredited certification company but we can assist in helping you choose a suitable company.

Our experience ensures that you are placed in good hands.

What is UKAS?

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.

Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators. UKAS is a non-profit-distributing private company, limited by guarantee. UKAS is independent of Government but is appointed as the national accreditation body by Accreditation Regulations 2009 (SI No 3155/2009) and the EU Regulation (EC) 765/2008 and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government through the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Why bother?

Companies may choose to have UKAS certification or not bother there are obviously benefits to choosing the UKAS route though.

If you have chosen to implement ISO9001 based on possible business tenders this standard then it may be the best chosen route. Many tenders require a UKAS certified certificate. It is best to check this out with them, but chances are the bigger the company you are tendering to the more likely they are looking for UKAS.

There are some consultants out there who will offer you certification in 30 days which is pretty much impossible if you are doing it correctly, for reasons like this companies can be wary of organizations who do not have UKAS certification.

A UKAS certification body is an independent influence so they will actually enhance the business management system by spotting things that the consultant may have not spotted. They offer an additional area of expertise and opinion and there actual processes are assessed by UKAS for compliance. There are also many independent certification body’s out there but if you do decide to go for the use of a certification body it is always the best possible route to choose a UKAS one or you could be potentially wasting your money.

Cost

Obviously cost is a big issue to some companies and having the services of a UKAS certification body can be something that some companies simply cannot afford. At RQMS when we finish our consultancy process with you we leave you in a position where we are confident that you are operating to a standard that would satisfy a UKAS accredited certification company assessor. And a level of operation that conforms and is compliant to the ISO standard. For companies who choose not to go for the UKAS route we are more than happy to talk to customers or potential customers, offer site tours to demonstrate that our systems are compliant and not a quick fix scam.

Benefits

Benifits of UKAS Certification include:

  • Indipendent un biased assessment
  • Usually a requirement for effective tender
  • Hige Level of recognition

RevisionQMS will always recommend going the UKAS route.
